Head Coach
My passion for health and fitness began in my youth with my parents involving me in sports from a young age. I loved the summers and fall filled with baseball, soccer, basketball and football. I enjoyed being as active as possible and pushing myself physically. It became even more important to me as I grew up and life and family circumstances became hard. Truly physical activity and sports helped me cope with the hard times in life.
That all changed when I was in high school when I decided to focus on baseball as my sport. I wanted to become a professional baseball player and I dedicated massive amounts of time to practice and getting better. That culminated in my high school baseball coach telling me that I would never play for him and there was nothing that I could do to ever make the team (yes, that really happened). I was understandably crushed and lost motivation for physical activity for almost a year. I gained weight and lost all confidence in any kind of social setting because I didn't feel happy with myself. That led to being an easy target for bullying.
On a whim in my senior year, I took a weight training class as I was tired of feeling weak and picked on all the time as I wanted to be strong and feel better about myself. And I. Fell. In. Love. With. It.
I finally felt good about myself, I built muscle, got stronger and felt like I had found a purpose again. I haven't stopped working out and lifting weights since (going on 9 year, *woot woot*).
I experienced a small set back as I left for a service mission for two years and lost a significant amount of muscle and gained fat (still worked out, but was limited on what I could do), but when I returned home I immediately got back in the gym and lost 20 lbs of fat and gained it back in muscle at the same time. It was a slow process as I didn't know what I was doing and lacked the education and know how at that time.
Three years later, after attending the Mr. Olympia expo in Las Vegas, I decided that I wanted to compete in Men's Physique. I hired a coach and got ready and my knowledge about nutrition and training exploded from that time forward. I learned what changes it takes personally to take control of your body and enact changes in your body. I got certified as a personal trainer and started working in a gym until I realized I could do a lot more good out of a corporate gym and being able to fully dedicate my knowledge and time to clients. I even got certified as a nutrition coach and plan to continue seeking higher certifications and nutritional education to help others reach their goals and get the body they want.
I started Excell FitLife with the sole intent of taking what I had learned through years of hard work and sacrifice to help others lose fat, build muscle and get the body they want faster and healthier than I did.
Coaching is my passion and it gives me purpose. Nothing makes me happier than helping others to reach their goals and become better every day. I believe that everyone can reach their goals and having a healthy fit lifestyle (in whatever form that takes for you) can fit into your life and schedule. Let's make it happen together!
